The volume of loans issued by commercial banks in July 2020 increased by 694.04 million lari ($226.5 million) or by 2.05 percent compared to the previous month and constituted 34.49 billion lari ($11.2 billion) by August 1, 2020, Trend reports via Georgian media.

The volume of loans in national currency increased by 232.94 million lari ($76.03 million) or by 1.61 percent and the volume of loans in foreign currency increased by 461.10 million lari ($150.5 million) or by 2.39 percent in July 2020.

By the end of July 2020, the total volume of national currency-denominated loans to resident legal entities issued by commercial banks amounted to 4.44 billion lari ($1.4 billion), and foreign currency-denominated loans constituted 12.16 billion lari ($3.9 billion).

During July 2020, the volume of lending to the resident household sector increased by 2.37 percent or 395.84 million lari ($129.2 million) and constituted 17.10 billion lari ($5.5 billion) by August 1, 2020. Larization ratio for total loans constituted 42.72 percent by August 1, 2020, and decreased by 0.19 percentage point, compared to July 1, 2020.

As of August 1, 2020, the banking sector in Georgia is represented by 15 commercial banks, including 14 foreign-controlled banks.

In July 2020, compared to the previous month, the total assets of Georgian commercial banks (in current prices) increased by 1.9 billion lari ($620.1 million) or by 3.85 percent and constituted 51.17 billion lari ($16.7 billion).

The banking sector's equity capital equals 5.28 billion lari ($17.2 billion), which makes up 10.32 percent of the commercial banks' total assets.
