Number of debit cards in Azerbaijan rises

The number of payment cards increased by 23.5 percent in Azerbaijan as of late July 2020, compared to the same period of 2019, and reached 8.8 million, Trend reports citing a statistics report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

The majority of the cards (7.8 million) are debit cards, with 3.3 million being social cards, 2.4 million - salary cards, and 1.9 million other cards. The total number of debit cards increased by 22.9 percent.

The number of credit cards stood at 985,000 as of late July 2020.

As of August 1, 2020, there were 2,585 ATMs in the country, of which 1,348 were in Baku and 1,237 in other cities and districts of the country.

Since early 2020, the total number of ATMs has increased by 30, or 1.1 percent; however, in connection with the liquidation of AtaBank, Amrahbank, NBC Bank and AGBank the number of ATMs went down by 62 as of late July.

The number of POS terminals in the country made up 55,487 units, of which 35,611 were installed in Baku and 19,265 in other cities and districts of the country.

Since the beginning of 2020, the number of POS terminals in Azerbaijan has increased by 3,659 units, or 5.4 percent, but in connection with revocation of licenses of the abovementioned banks the number of POS terminals sharply dropped by 11,981 (17.76 percent) in late July.
