Bank deposits fall in Georgia

The volume of bank deposits in July 2020 increased by 19.1 percent year-on-year and amounted to 30.5 billion laris ($9.9 billion) in Georgia, Trend reports via the National Bank of Georgia.
According to the document, deposits in lari amounted to 12 billion laris or $3.9 billion (+ 31 percent year-on-year), and the volume of deposits in foreign currency equaled to 18.5 billion laris or $6.04 billion (+ 12.2 percent year-on-year).
At the end of July, the share of deposits in national currency in the total volume of deposits amounted to 39.4 percent.
As of August 1, 2020, the banking sector in Georgia is represented by 15 commercial banks, including 14 foreign-controlled banks.
The banking sector's equity capital equals 5.28 billion laris ($17.2 billion), which makes up 10.32 percent of the commercial banks' total assets.
