Money transfers via int'l payment systems down in Kazakhstan

A total of 3.7 million transfers worth 55.6 trillion tenge ($133.3 billion) were made via services of Kazakhstan National Bank's payment systems in Jan. 2021, Trend reports with reference to the data of the bank.

This is 27.2 percent more in volume and 11.9 percent more in value compared to Dec. 2020. On average, 205,700 transactions worth 3.1 trillion tenge ($7.4 billion) were carried out daily.

The volume of plastic cards issued in Kazakhstan amounted to 49.3 million cards as of Feb. 1, 2021, and 53.7 percent of them were used in Jan. 2021.

The volume of transactions via plastic cards of Kazakh issuers amounted to 356.8 million transactions worth 4.9 trillion tenge ($11.7 billion) in Jan. 2021, which means a decrease of 10 percent in volume and by 24 percent in value compared to Dec. 2020.

The share of non-cash payments in the structure of operations using payment carts of Kazakh issuers increased to 94.4 percent in volume (93.4 percent in December) and to 74.8 percent in value (72.8 percent in Dec. 2020).

Furthermore, the total volume of funds sent via international systems of money transfers amounted to 0.2 million transfers worth 58.9 billion ($141.2 million) in Jan. 2021, which is 27.4 percent less in value compared to Dec. 2020.

Out of the total volume of transfers, 76.2 percent of total volume or 92.6 percent of total value (54.5 billion tenge or $130.6 million) accounted for transfers from Kazakhstan to other countries.

Some 23.8 percent of total volume (0.05 million) and 7.4 percent of total value (4.4 billion tenge or $10.5 million) accounted for transfers in Kazakhstan.

The remaining 0.1 million transfers worth 19.6 billion tenge ($47 million) accounted for transfers from other countries to Kazakhstan.
