Number of client accounts in Azerbaijani banks increases

The number of client accounts in Azerbaijani banks totaled over 21.6 million in the first quarter of 2021, increasing by 10.3 percent compared to the first quarter of 2020, Trend reports citing the statistical report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

As reported, a large part (18.8 million accounts or 86.8 percent) in the structure of client accounts fell on current accounts, an increase of 13.1 percent in annual terms. In the structure of current accounts, almost the entire share belongs to individuals (18.5 million accounts).

Credit accounts, which made up 12.2 percent in the structure of client accounts, amounted to 2.64 million, and the share of deposit accounts amounted to 1 percent or over 225,000 accounts, the CBA said.

According to the Central Bank, the number of bank clients by the end of the first quarter of 2021, having increased by 14.7 percent, topped 9.43 million, of which 9.32 million are individuals.

Currently, 26 banks operate in Azerbaijan, two of which are state-owned and 24 are private.
