Azerbaijan sees rise in number of payment cards

The number of payment cards in Azerbaijan grew as of early June 2021, Trend reports citing a statistical report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

According to the CBA, this indicator increased by 17.7 percent, compared to the same period of 2020, exceeding 9.97 million units.

Most of the cards (8.79 million units) are debit cards, of which 3.5 million units are social cards, 2.6 million - salary cards, and 2.6 million - other card products. The number of debit cards increased by 16.3 percent on annual basis.

“The number of credit cards in the reporting period exceeded 1.18 million units,” the CBA report said.

“By early June, 2,785 ATMs operated in Azerbaijan, of which 1,466 were in Baku. The remaining 1,319 ATMs were in other cities and districts of the country. The number of ATMs in the country grew by 9 percent year on year,” said the report.

The number of POS terminals in the country amounted to 59,651, of which 39,172 were installed in Baku, 20,479 - in other cities and districts of Azerbaijan. Their number rose by 4,624 units, or 8.4 percent in annual terms.
