Provision of funds for import of essential products - priority of Central Bank of Iran

The priority of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) is to provide the necessary funds for imports of essential products, Director General of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI), Akbar Komijani said, Trend reports citing CBI’s website.

He made the remark in a meeting with the Iranian Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Alireza Razm Hosseini.

The director general noted that the CBI has paid $5.5 billion out of the $8 billion allocated for the import of essential products and medicines from the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021) to July 11.

“As a result of the providing of funds, some of the products were imported into the country and some are in customs,” he added.

Komijani said that according to the decision of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, necessary steps are being taken soon to provide the remaining $2.5 billion in the first half of the current Iranian year (from March 21through September 22, 2021).

The director general emphasized that the CBI tries to meet the registered orders at the expense of oil financial resources.

During the meeting, relevant officials of the Central Bank of Iran and the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade of Iran discussed a number of issues, including the acceleration of the process for allocating currency for the import of essential products.
