World Bank Determines Development of Project on Electronic Government in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr S. Babayeva / The World Bank (WB) will develop the E-Government project for Azerbaijan within 2 months, the country manager of the WB in Azerbaijan, Gregory Jedrzejczak, said on 1 October.

Coordinated sum of the credit to be allotted by the bank for implementation of the project is $30mln. Final amount will be defined during the negotiations.

The decision to allocate a credit to Azerbaijan for implementation of the project was made during the visit of Azerbaijani Communications & IT Minister, Ali Abbasov, in the United States in the summer of 2006.

The main purpose of the project is to increase efficiency of state bodies on through wide use of modern IT and ICT.

The project also provides for AzDatacom, a data transmitting network, which is a measure included into the state program on development of communications and ICT in Azerbaijan ('Electronic Azerbaijan') for 2004-2008.
