Transcending Storage Capacity with a 16GB SDHC Memory Card

( Mobile ) - Even though the SDHC memory card format is about the same size as a postage stamp, manufacturers have managed to stuff quite a bit of memory in there. Transcend is pushing the envelope again with the introduction of a 16GB SDHC memory card. Pictured here is the Class 6 SDHC card, meaning that they guarantee a minimum data transfer speed of 6MB/sec. Based on my experience with other SDHC cards, the real-world read and write speeds easily exceed those expectations.

The Transcend 16GB SDHC card is said to be among the tops in storage capacity for the SDHC format, at least at the consumer-available level. These cards support the FAT32 file system format. To put it all into perspective, 16 gigabytes of space will give you enough room to take over 8,000 digital pictures at 7 megapixels of resolution.

In terms of features that set this Transcend SDHC card apart from some of its competition, it's got Error Correcting Code (ECC) to "automatically detect and correct errors during data transfer, preventing data corruption and missing files."
