Cisco Prepares Implementation Conception of NGN in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend S.Babayeva / Cisco Systems Company, worldwide producers with regards to network technology and equipment for the internet, is preparing the implementation conception of the Next Generation Network (NGN) in Azerbaijan, said the Company's Vice President for CIS countries, Robert Agee.

The works have commenced after talks with Azerbaijan's Ministry of Communications & Information Technologies. The talks are still continuing. "The matter is that the NGN provides wider technological opportunities than it has been accepted," the Vice President said.

Touching upon the benefits of this technology for Azerbaijan, Agee said that this network will enable the communication operators to render the video-voice service and mobile communication service via one communication channel. It will be possible to apply Wi-Max via this network for the separate cities and villages.

According to Agee, the cost of the project is unclear because it still being devised. He said that the technical realization of the project may begin in 2008 if the Government approves the conception.

In addition, the Company expressed its intention in participating in the project to establish regional innovation zones in Azerbaijan. Last year Cisco Systems expressed an interest in co-operation and expansion of business in Azerbaijan. During his visit to attend BakuTel 2006 exhibition in Baku, Cisco Systems' President for Work in Developing Markets, Paul Mountford, discussed realization of concrete projects in Azerbaijan. The Company initiated to establish a regional center for training of engineers within the regional innovation zones. Another proposal of the Company was the project to introduce the Next Generation Network technology in Azerbaijan.
