Azerbaijan’s IT Revenue May Comprise $15bln by 2025

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr S. Babayeva / IT revenue in Azerbaijan may comprise $15bln by 2025 and oil revenue may drop to $4.8bln, the head of the Department for Development of an Information Society in the Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry Rufat Gulmammadov said on 27 November

According to Gulmammadov, in 2012 IT revenues are forecast to make up $4bln. The revenue will be received mainly from the implementation of the project on the creation of a regional innovation zone in Azerbaijan (RIZ).

The final draft of the project will be submitted to the Government by December. Most of the reviews and recommendations on the RIZ project have already been received from state establishments.

"Comments by state bodies on the project are generally positive," he said.

After all the reviews are received, the Communications Ministry will develop a final draft of the project and will submit it to the Government for consideration. Suggestions were developed jointly by the consultants Booz Allen Hamilton and Ministry specialists.

The RIZ project stipulates the creation of technical parks for the development of small and medium sized entrepreneurships, as well as the transformation of the country to Data Centre, introduction of IT in different fields and many others.

The IT market in Azerbaijan made up $922mln in 2006.
