Drop in Tariffs for International Calls in Azerbaijan Caused Increase in Traffic – Minister

Azerbaijan, Baku, 16 January / Trend corr S. Babayeva / The drop in the tariffs of the international calls in Azerbaijan in May 2007, caused a significant increase in the traffic, Ali Abbasov, the Azerbaijani Communications and IT Minister said on 16 January.

According to the Minister, in 2007, the international incoming phone traffic in Azerbaijan increased by 69.8mln minutes as compared to 2006 and totalled 389.1mln minutes. The outgoing traffic increased by 30.09mln and totalled 119.64mln minutes. The number of international phone channels increased by 964, making up 4,664 in total.

According to the decision of the Tariff Council, on 1 June 2007, the fees for the per minute of the call was dropped as follows:

- to the CIS and Baltic countries - from AZN 0.45 to AZN 0.36,

- to Iran, Turkey, Pakistan - from AZN 0.54 to AZN 0.45,

- to European countries - from AZN 0.72 to AZN 0.54,

- to USA and other countries - from AZN 0.9 to AZN 0.54.
