Azerbaijan, Baku, 14 April / Trend corr S. Babayeva/ In the first quarter of 2008, the number of mobile communication subscribers in Azerbaijan totalled 4.4mln people, the Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry reported on 14 April.
The number of subscribers grew by 100,000 compared to the beginning of the year. Thus, there are 51 cellular communication subscribers to each 100 people in Azerbaijan.
There are 3 GSM operators operating in Azerbaijan. Azercell Telecom has over 3mln subscribers, Bakcell over 700,000 and Azerfon over 500,000.
The government forecasts that the number of mobile subscribers could reach 5.2mln in 2008, 5.9mln in 2009, 6.2mln in 2010 and 6.8mln in 2011.
