Azerbaijani Delegation to Visit Geneva to Participate in UPU Congress

Azerbaijan, Baku, 22 July / Trend corr. S.Babayeva / On 22 July, the delegation from the Azerbaijani Communication and IT Ministry pays a visit to Geneva to participate in the 24th Congress of the Universal Postal Union (UPU). The meeting will be held from 23 July to 12 August.

"Iltimas Mammadov will head the Azerbaijani delegation," the Ministry said.

Congress is held once in four years. Initially, the Congress is planned to stage in Nairobi, Kenya. However, the UPU Administration Council made a decision to hold the congress in Switzerland because of unrest in the country regarding the presidential elections in December 2007.

The elections to the supreme departments of the UPU - Administration Council and Council of Postal Exploitation. Azerbaijan has nominated its candidate to participate in these elections.

Before, Azerbaijan was accepted to the framework of the Administrative Council for four year period during the latest Bucharest Congress in 2004.

The meeting participants will discuss the issues directed to upgrade service in postal spheres, as well as to develop postal infrastructure and to extend financial services. The universal postal strategy is expected to accept in the meeting.
