I.Khalilova / The Azerbaijani Ministry of Communication and Information Technology assesses proposal on assignment of orbital position to launch the first own communication satellite, Iltimas Mammadov, the Deputy Minister of Communication, said on 6 November.
"Several companies submitted their proposals. At present they are under assessment," the Deputy Minister said.
On 5 November Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree to establish cosmic industry in the country and launch telecommunication satellites to orbit.
Azerbaijan's location in advantageous geographical and economic space between Europe and Asia necessitates to establish and to launch telecommunication satellites to orbit, because they are major components of economic and information security, the President's decree says.
In accordance with the decree, the Cabinet of Ministers should develop a state program on establishment and development of cosmic industry in the country and submit it to the President within three months with the objective to accelerate use of Hi-Tech and to establish cosmic industry in the country.
The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology was commissioned to take relevant measures to launch telecommunication satellites to orbit.
