Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan achieve agreement on construction of TAE Caspian segment

Certain agreements on construction of Caspian segment of fiber-optic cable main line Trans-Asia-Europe (TAE) were achieved between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, the communication and IT ministry told Trend on July 30.

At present, instructions were given to corresponding agencies of both countries. The project was included in protocol of the inter-state commission, the ministry said. Bilateral talks on projects realization were intensified after last visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Turkmenistan. At present, there are certain agreements on this issue at presidential level.  

Turkmenistan regards this project carefully as issue on Caspian status has not been solved yet.

Talks are held with Kazakhstan parallel with Turkmenistan. There is protocol signed between center of international relations and calculations of the communication and IT ministry and Kazakh Company KazTransCom. Upon the protocol, project will be financed jointly.

At present, construction of Trans-Caspian segment of TAE main line between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan is more profitable. It allows reducing route, increasing volume of exchanged traffic and having direct way to Kyrgyzstan and China.
