Azerbaijan and Estonia to sign intergovernmental agreement on IT development

An intergovernmental agreement on the development of information technology is expected to be signed between Azerbaijan and Estonia, Head of the Estonian-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce (EACC), Jana Krimpe, told Trend .

According to Krimpe, the document is under consideration in the relevant departments of both countries. The main areas of the countries' cooperation will be the development of a strategy for information technology and the elaboration of proposals to combat cyber crime. Developing cooperation in these areas will have a positive impact on forming an open information society and economy based on IT.

Currently the countries are cooperating closely in this area. The Azerbaijani experts got familiarized in detail the work of the NATO Cyber Defense Center - K-5 - in Tallinn and regularly are working together in this area.

The Center for Computer Security K-5 was created with NATO support.
The integrated K-5 system turned Estonia into the leader of IT-security technology and fully conforms to NATO's development strategy, which provides protection from new threats, such as information attacks.

The Estonian government has suggested that the European Union organize a simulated cyber attack to test the defense of the 27 EU member-states' information structures. The test attack is expected to he conducted in 2010.

Germany, Spain, Italy, Sweden and Finland also showed an interest in the K-5 system.

The K-5 team consists of 30 specialists who collect and analyze intelligence information on the Internet to simulate possible responses to cyber attacks. Such research corresponds to the NATO strategy against the developing concept of electronic warfare.
