Seismological Center of Azerbaijan's National Academy of Sciences completes establishment of three seismic stations

Republic Seismological Center (RSC) of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan has completed work on the assembly of three seismic stations in Zagatala, Kurdamir and Khizi districts, a source in RSC told Trend .

Until the end of the year, similar stations will be installed in Mingachevir, Saatli and Lerik districts.

The RSC plans for 2010-2011 envisages establishing nine more stations. The cost of each is about $200,000. Equipment was purchased from the American Kinemetrics Company.

At present, seismic equipment was installed in 14 districts of the Republic. Head station is located in Baku, which through a satellite in real time regularly receives information from the vibration sensors installed in seismically active areas of the country.

After processing the data, the system displays information about the exact location of the earthquake, its strength and time.
