Azerbaijani provider to launch WiMAX

In late 2009, the Azerbaijani provider Delta Telecom intends to launch Mobile WiMAX wireless broadband access, the company said.

The company has already conducted a presentation of user equipment WiMAX. A line of subscriber equipment is provided with USB-modem, Express Card adapters and modems fixed of WiMAX. Devices will be available in retail network this month.

User devices enable to expand a network at the based of Mobile WiMAX at home, without requiring from users in-depth knowledge in the field of telecommunications equipment.

At present work on the first phase of the project has finished, which installed 110 base stations (BS) in Baku and Absheron peninsula.

Capacity of WiMAX network will be 4.4 Gbps.

The work is conducted in Guba, Ganja, Astara and in other areas. Under the company's plans, the second phase of the project, which included installing 140 base stations, will be implemented by late 2009.

WiMAX Delta Telecom network will be based on standard 802.16e, also known as Mobile WiMAX and intended for mobile devices moving at speeds up to 120 km/h.

The network is built on the base of Alcatel-Lucent equipment, with which Delta Telecom Ltd signed an agreement in September 2008.

In future, WiMAX network will be integrated with LTE technology (Long-Term Evolution), which is a major step towards further enhancing the fastest network in Azerbaijan. LTE will bring mobile broadband access to a qualitatively new level due to ultra-high data rates, which are necessary in the case of services such as Internet TV, mobile video blogging, online video games, etc.
