The Council of Heads of Administrations of the Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications (RCC) will decide on a project to lay the fiber-optical East West informational superhighway.
The board authorized the RCC Executive Committee to provide necessary assistance to the Azerbaijani communications administration's working group on the East-West project.
Previously the RCC recommended taking into account national interests to actively promote the adoption of a resolution proposed by Azerbaijan on the East-West informational superhighway.
The U.N. General Assembly adopted a project resolution to establish an East-West informational superhighway proposed by Azerbaijan. The U.N. appraised Azerbaijan's initiative to implement the informational superhighway project.
Despite its advantageous geographical position, Azerbaijan is far from international Web centers. Many centers are located in Western Europe, which forces Azerbaijan to use transit state traffic, which significantly increases Internet costs.
The most effective way to increase transmitted traffic volume and reduce costs is to lay fiber-optical channels through a transnational pipeline connecting Europe and Asia.
The project will connect 20 countries and work as a locomotive for regional development. The project will eliminate the "gap" between Western European and Pacific countries.
