The Sumgayit Communications Center's transition to the next generation network (NGN) will end by late 2009, the Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry reported today.

Project executor Aztelecom PU offered every facility to install new equipment at the ATE 646/647/645/649.

The ministry said the reconstruction will increase number capacity to 43,000.

The expansion of the Aztelecom network through the additional switching equipment will allow advanced subscriber services to be implemented quickly and efficiently and expand the range of value-added services, alongside providing digital telephone services.

NGN is a packet-switched network allowing the efficient use of communications channels.

Flexible switching and a unified data transmission technology allow the equipment to provide a wide range of services. This will provide the population with IP telephone services, broadband Internet and IP-TV, as well as traditional communications services.
