Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 2 / Trend H.Valiyev /

Soon the project to create a single database of IMEI-codes of mobile phones in Azerbaijan will be submitted to the Azerbaijani government, Simbrella Director General Seymur Mammadov told Trend .

According to Mammadov, presently, the Cabinet of Ministers tasked to prepare a draft project for consideration. Parallel to this the company also carried out work on the preparation of legal framework and procedures for registration IMEI-codes.

The project provides the registration of all mobile phones imported into the territory of Azerbaijan. At present, a significant portion of the work on the database has been realized. Simbrella conducts technical work on the project.

The database will be fulfilled intensively through IMEI codes of mobile hand-sets, which will be imported through Azerbaijan.

The project will include cellular communication operators and governmental agencies. Thus, the State Customs Committee will carry out control and registration of imported hand sets. The Ministry of Information Technologies and Communication will regulate the project.

Currently, the analytical software of the system is ready and is in test mode. Hardware and software that will turn off phones illegally imported to Azerbaijan will be connected to all phones when the legal framework on registration of the IMEI-code of mobile phones will come to power.

After the formation of the database, it will be possible to have an idea about the state of the mobile phone market (market volume, number of legal and illegal products, etc.).

At present at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport, one can voluntary register IMEI-code of the phone when importing mobile phones into the country.

The new system will more effectively combat both the theft and illegal import of handsets into the country.
