Azerbaijan's initiative East-West project included in work plan of COMSTECH

Azerbaijan's initiative to create super-information line "East-West" has been included in the work plan of the Standing Committee of the Organization of the Islamic Conference on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH), the Ministry of Communications & Information Technologies of Azerbaijan said.

According to the ministry, the issue was discussed during the 27th meeting of COMSTECH held in late February in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).
Earlier the resolution put forward by Azerbaijan to create super-information line "East-West" was adopted by the United Nations during its 66th plenary meeting. The UN has expressed support for the project, which aims to eliminate the "information precipice", reduce poverty, increase economic growth and play the role of locomotive in the development of the region.
The head of the office in his report also spoke about the situation of the sector of information and communication technologies, the reforms carried out in Gaza over recent years, Azerbaijan's plans to launch Azerspace domestic telecommunications satellite into orbit.
