Azerbaijani minister: Lying of Caspian segment of fiber-optic cable will be implemented under East-West project

The adoption of the UN resolution on the East-West super information highway initiated by Azerbaijan will eliminate all outstanding organizational issues of the Caspian segment of the laying of fiber-optic cable backbone, Azerbaijani Communications and IT Minister Ali Abbasov said today.

The minister said based on the resolution, all countries of the region is recommended to take all necessary steps to implement this project and the project on lying of the Caspian segment will be implemented under Azerbaijan's initiative.

Previously, the ministry said that today Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan has agreed on many issue concerning lying of the Caspian segment of the fiber-optic cable backbone. The two countries's communication administrations were instructed and the draft protocol was submitted to the Interstate Commission.

In addition to the Turkmen negotiations, talks are continuing with Kazakhstan. A protocol has been signed between the Center for International Relations and Calculation and Kazakh KazTransCom company to jointly finance the project.

Constructing the Trans-Caspian segment of the TAE cable main between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan is economically advantageous as it reduces the transport route, increases the traffic exchange, and allows direct access to Kyrgyzstan and China.
