Specialists of the Communications and IT Ministry agree the coordination of frequency resources for the digital broadcasting of Azerbaijan and Russia in Baku, the ministry said.
According to the ministry, the issue is considered between the State Administration of Radio Frequency of the ministry, the Russian Ministry of Communications and Mass Communications and the Federal State Unitary Enterprise "Main Radio Frequency Center".
Radio frequencies will be coordinated in accordance with the recommendations of the ITU (International Telecommunication Union). All countries must pass to digital broadcasting no later than 2015.
The development of digital broadcasting in Azerbaijan is one of the priority tasks of the Communications and IT Ministry. It intends to distribute digital broadcasting throughout the republic in the nearest future. The transition to digital TV in Azerbaijan envisages replacing the analogue signal to digital one by preserving the existing standard. Full transition to digital broadcasting is expected to occur by 2013, the ministry said.
Today, TV and Radio PU conducts experimental exploitation of digital television in the territory of Baku and Absheron peninsula. Transmitters are installed for digital broadcasting. The power allows to cover the entire territory of the capital and the whole Absheron.
Experimental work includes thorough calculations based on the complexity of relief in the city and suburbs, as well as specific weather conditions. Used technical means are tested.
After the test operation, the work to expand the digital television will be conducted at the regional level.
Broadcasting of digital TV is carried out on the MPEG-4. AzTV TV and ITV channels are among the local TV channels broadcasted in a digital format. Private TV channels ATV, Lider and ANS expressed the desire to be represented in digital television package.
The analogue signal will not be fully switched off till many people have an intelligent decoder.
