Azerbaijan, Baku, April 19 / Trend H. Valiyev /

The Working Group of the Regional Commonwealth of Communications (RCC) discussed the issues to implement national programs and projects for ICT development, aimed at building the Information Society in RCC member-states, the Regional Communications Commonwealth (RCC) said.

The issue was considered during the first meeting of the High Level Working Group for Cooperation in the willingness of countries participating in the RCC to build the Information Society, which took place in Astana in early April.

Azerbaijan was represented by the Communications and IT Ministry at the meeting.

The Working Group considered the issues concerning the definition of indicators characterizing the state of development of informatization in the countries participating in the RCC, and the need to develop indices of readiness of the participating countries for the Information Society.

The Working Group found it appropriate to promote the working bodies, RCC communication administrations and other competent public authorities of the countries participating in the RCC in the development and implementation of national projects of construction and development of the Information Society. They are aimed at providing socially relevant electronic government services to citizens and business development in this area, and the establishment of monitoring systems on the willingness of the participating countries to build an information society on the basis of "e-passports of the information society".

The Working Group decided to undertake the analysis and develop proposals for improving the system of indicators characterizing the level of preparedness of countries participating in the RCC to build an information society jointly with the RCC Commission on the economy. It was also proposed to explore the possibility of developing guidelines for their establishment, taking into account the existing systems of indicators of the ITU and other international organizations.
