Azerbaijani Academy of Sciences completes operations on assembling of seismic stations in regions

The National Seismological Centre of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences has completed work on the installation of seven seismic stations in the regions, National Seismological Centre Deputy Director General Azay Rzayev told Trend.

Rzayev said that new seismic stations were installed in Zagatala, Kurdamir, Mingachevir, Saatli, Gazakh, Lerik and Khizi regions.

Today, the total number of seismic stations deployed on the territory of the Republic, hits 21 units. Besides these areas, seismic stations deployed in Gobu, Gala, Nardaran, Guba, Devechi, Pirguli, Ismayilli, Barda, Ganja, Sheki, Shirvan, Jalilabad, Lankaran and Nakhchivan. The main station is located in Baku on the territory of the campuses.

The information from the vibration sensors installed in seismically active locations of the country is regularly received through a satellite in real time.

After the data processing, the system displays information about the exact location of the earthquake, its strength and time. The equipment was purchased from the U.S company Kinemetrics. The cost of each station is about $200,000. Corporate network of the National Seismological Centre is served by Delta Telecom.

The future plans of the seismological center include installation of nine additional stations. At present, proposals for the deployment of new seismic stations have been submitted to the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers. After their approval, the conditions for further implementation of the project will be determined.
