TeliaSonera’s Uzbek subsidiary launches LTE network

Uzbekistan, Tashkent, July 30, D.Azizov /

FE COSCOM LLC (providing its services under UCell brand), the second mobile operator in Uzbekistan, is proud to announce that it launched the fourth generation mobile network - 4G (Long-term Evolution - LTE). Now the company will be able to offer services on the basis of a next generation super-fast mobile broadband network, which provides access speed of up to 100 Mbps.

It should be noted, that UCell is part of TeliaSonera, which was the first company in the world with the launch of commercial 4G services to customers in Stockholm, Sweden, and in Oslo, Norway, in 2009. During 2010, the extensive network roll out continues in 25 cities and recreation areas in Sweden and 4 cities in Norway. During the first half year 2010, TeliaSonera has also opened up 4G for pilot customers in Finland, Denmark, Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia.

"We are proud, that Uzbekistan became one of the few countries in the world, utilizing 4G network. As a part of TeliaSonera, we are committed to deliver the state-of-the art technologies and an excellent wireless data experience to our customers," - said Oguz Memiguven, UCell CEO. "Our subscribers will be able enjoy newer and faster products to take advantage of these incredible new speeds. UCell will offer its customers new and exciting products on its 4G LTE network."

UCell has successfully tested its 4G LTE network in the centre of Tashkent. It involved streaming video, file uploads and downloads, and internet browsing, as well as calls with Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). The tests showed, that 4G network is 10 times faster than today's 3G networks. ZTE Corporation, one of the leaders in mobile and telecom equipment production, supplied equipment for UCell 4G network.

Customers' need for capacity and speed keeps growing. 4G mobile networks will offer use of interactive TV, videos, advanced online gaming and professional applications and services for business, that require high speed and capacity. UCell will continue to expand 4G network to increase coverage nationwide for the benefit of the people of Uzbekistan.

The 4G/LTE system is based on 3GPP standards for Long Term Evolution (LTE) radio technology and System Architecture Evolution (SAE) core technology. 4G offers speeds in mobile broadband services between 20-80 Mbit/s with a maximum speed of 100 Mbit/s.

UCell became the second mobile operator of Uzbekistan, which launched LTE (4G) network in the country. On 28 July 2010, MTS Uzbekistan commissioned new generation network in Uzbekistan. UCell received the license for 4G in June 2010.
