Institute of Information Technologies (IIT) of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences has developed a methodology for combating spam, IIT Director Rasim Aliguliyev told Trend.

He said the methodology envisages creation of junk mail filtering system at user, corporate and state levels. The system will allow users to determine the status of received e-mail and set up the filtering system.

Internet spam, despite attempts to resist it, goes forward confidently. According to the report Midyear Security Report 2010, published by Cisco, the number of spam attacks in 2010 will increase by 30 percent compared to 2009. The major spam "suppliers" have been and remain the U.S., India, Brazil, Russia and South Korea.

The examination found that a social network has a significant effect on the growth of spam. Online-game on social networking sites has a separate threat, through which harmful code is distributed.

Getting rid of junk mail is not easy, but certain email clients and antivirus software have standard means to block a significant portion of spam.
