Azerbaijani ministry develops software

The Information and Computing Center of the Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry has developed software to provide preferential services for Internet access via ADSL within "People's Computer" project, the ministry said.

According to the ministry, creation of accounting systems has been completed. Loans are paid through electronic payments.

Today, about 4,400 units of personal computers have been sold within the second phase of "People's Computer" project. The vast majority accounts for portable devices.

The total number of personal computers, sold within the project reaches 7,900 units.

About 1,850 million manat was invested in the first phase of the pilot project. About 3,500 computers were sold. About 834 units were sold in Baku and the rest - in the regions.

To participate in the next phase of the project expressed interest in developer of antivirus software company Symantec, and Azerbaijani producer of computer equipment KUR, production of which is optional in the implementation of computers.

Since early 2010, KUR plant producing computer technique and developer of antivirus software Symantec Company are involved in the project.

In early July, Intel expressed interest in participating in the project.

The pilot project was launched in April last year. The agreement to implement the main phase of the project "People's Computer" was signed in late June.

Computers proposed under the project are provided for teachers in secondary educational institutions and are sold on an interest-free loan for up to 12 months and costs by 25-40 percent below market value.

The project is implemented by HP and Microsoft. Bestcomp Group is a supplier company.
