Azerbaijan, Baku, August 25 /Trend, G.Veliyev/

International Telecommunication Union (ITU) announced the agenda of the Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-10) that will take place in the city of Guadalajara (Mexico) from Monday, 4 to Friday, 22 October 2010.

Azerbaijan at the meeting will be represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies.

The Plenipotentiary Conference is the key event at which ITU Member States decide on the future role of the organization, thereby determining the organization's ability to influence and affect the development of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) worldwide.

The conference is expected to be attended by about 2,000 people, including state heads and VIP-persons from more than 160 countries, representing governments, private sector, as well as regional and international organizations.

The Plenipotentiary Conference is the top policy-making body of the ITU. Held every four years, the Conference sets the Union's general policies, adopts four-year strategic and financial plans and elects the senior management team of the organization, the members of Council and the members of the Radio Regulations Board.

Azerbaijan nominated its candidacy for election to the ITU Board in the group of countries in the region "C". Earlier in the elections, Azerbaijan was unable to enter the Board in the group of countries in the region "C", gaining 57 votes. Elections were held in five regions: "A", "B", "C", "D" and "E".
