The failure to determine the status of the Caspian Sea hinders the project on construction of the Caspian segment of fiber-optic cable line Trans-Asia-Europe (TAE), the ambassador of Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan Serik Primbetov said on August 30.
According to the ambassador, today there is agreement on this project, which is considered at the ministerial level between the two countries.
Determining the status of the Caspian Sea will allow to select the optimal route for the cable line.

There is a protocol signed between the center of international relations and calculations of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan (MCIT) and the Kazakh KazTransCom, upon which the project will be financed jointly.

Director of the center of international relations and calculations Jalil Jafarov told Trend earlier that despite that the issue of laying the cable line TAE with Kazakhstan loses its urgency, the Azerbaijani side is still interested in the speedy resolution of this issue.

According to Jafarov, Turkmenistan is also active in laying TAE. This route is more advantageous because it reduces the length, increases the amount of traffic exchanged and has direct access to Kyrgyzstan and China. The Turkmen side is also still wary about this project, given that the status of the Caspian Sea has not yet resolved.
The Minister of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan Ali Abbasov believes that adopted by the United Nations, the resolution of Azerbaijan to create superhighway "East-West" will eliminate all unresolved organizational matters on laying the Caspian segment of the fiber-optic cable line. According to political resolution, all countries in region were recommended to take all necessary steps to implement this project and the project will be implemented under the initiative of Azerbaijan.

According to Primbetov, Kazakhstan fully supports the initiative of Azerbaijan on the information superhighway "East-West" and is ready to participate in this project.
