Azerbaijan, Iran to discuss cooperation in postal sphere in Tehran

A working group consisting of representatives of Azerbaijani Postal Administration will pay a working visit to Tehran Oct. 5-7, Azerbaijani Communication and Information Technologies Ministry said.

A working group consisting of representatives of Azerbaijani Postal Administration will pay a working visit to Tehran Oct. 5-7, Azerbaijani Communication and Information Technologies Ministry said.

The visit, which will be realized at the invitation of Iranian Postal Administration, aims to hold meetings with the working group of Iran`s Post and discuss cooperation between the two countries in postal sphere.

It should be reminded that first meeting of the working group between the two countries took place in Baku on December 21, 2009. At that time issues such as transportation of international mail in transit from Baku to Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and on the opposite direction passing through the territory of Iran, issuance of joint postage stamp dedicated to the theme of ecology of the Caspian Sea, transit postal sendings, exchange of electronic remittances as well as exchange of experience among experts of the given sphere. However, the above-mentioned issues have not been fully solved yet. The issues will be reconsidered at the next meeting.

Azerbaijan's postal operator suspended mail deliveries to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through Iran today.

Earlier Head of the Postal Department at the Communications and IT Ministry's Novruz Mammadov told Trend that Azerbaijan's postal operator Azerpoct  suspended mail deliveries to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through Iran, because they are "untimely and expensive."

Mammadov added that mail deliveries through Iran may recommence once the sides agree upon a simplified delivery procedure.

Cooperation in the postal communications between Azerbaijan and Iran was discussed last December. A memorandum of cooperation was also signed between the Communications and IT Ministry and the Iranian Information and Communications Ministry in 2009.
