The number of digital TV channels in Baku and Absheron peninsula will increase up to 24, director general of Teleradio Production Unit of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan Aflatun Sharifov told Trend on Friday.
Sharifov said that soon it is planned to launch 12 programs on each transmitter in a test mode. Quality of digital broadcast signals will be analyzed by experts of Teleradio and government department on radio frequencies. "Today we are working to build a radio relay line to the south. The line will run from Garadagh to Lerik region. Microwave line will be used to transmit digital signals from Baku to the southern regions. The work will be completed by the end of November. The main reason for building the line in the south direction is also associated with the presence of facts of invasion of Iranian television signals in the air space of Azerbaijan," said Sharifov.

By the end of November, there are plans to complete the installation of digital television transmitters in Ganja and Shirvan. Upon completion of these works the Production Unit will begin work in Agsu district that will encompass the whole Aran zone with digital television.

Teleradio Production Unit has already signed a contract for the purchase of digital transmitters with the German Rohde & Schwarz Company.

At the regional level it is planned to launch a social package, consisting of 10 television stations, which will include predominantly Azerbaijani TV channels and will be available free of charge.
