Human rights groups, independent media outlets and nonprofit organizations in Azerbaijan can get free licenses for software solutions of Microsoft, after passing appropriate  registration procedure on Microsoft's Internet resource, Microsoft Azerbaijan head Teymur Akhundov told Trend today.

He said, after registering on the corporate website the organization will have a right download distribution disk, as well as a certain number of licenses that can be used for its professional activity.

Recently Microsoft within its global initiative launched a program of free licensing of software products for the above-mentioned structures.

The main goal of the free licensing program is avoidance of preventing the aforementioned structures' activity under the pretext of illegal use of the Microsoft solutions.

The new free licensing program besides Azerbaijan will be also applied to Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, China, Malaysia and Vietnam, the list will include more contries.

Microsoft's decision about using a program of free software licensing followed the material published in "The New York Times", which says that use of pirated software can be used as a pretext for exerting pressure.

The publication provides an example in connection with the seizing computers from non-government organizations based on the fact that they installed pirated software.

Microsoft previously also provided a free software license for non-governmental organizations. So far, the Corporation issued free licenses to 42,000 organizations in different countries, which amounts to $390 million in money terms.
