Azerbaijani Internet providers are not interested in business on a regional level, Communications and IT Deputy Minister Elmir Velizadeh said.
He said that today there are all necessary conditions for the regional expansion of providers who can use the network infrastructures of both Aztelekom production association and AzDATACOM network.
"The free access to the regions was given to Internet providers in 2005 at the initiative of Azerbaijani Communications and IT Minister Ali Abbasov. This initiative lasted about two years. Unfortunately, providers did not use this opportunity. The issue is that even after creating such conditions, providers have poor interest," he said.
Regarding the licensing of Internet providers' activity, the issue today is not on the agenda, he said.
