Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 6 / Trend H.Valiyev /

The Azerbaijani IT-company Ultra has sent a pilot batch of personal computers to Cuba, Ultra Company Marketing head Malik Rashidov told Trend on Thursday.

Rashidov said the company has delivered 20 computers-in-one series, Nexus Extreme LCD, to the country.

"The project was implemented with the assistance of the Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry. Also today, we consider the possibility of the supply of laptop computers Nexus to Mexico. The question of deliveries of products of local production is still at the stage of negotiations," he said.

Possibilities of cooperation between the countries have been discussed in an agreement on cooperation in information and communication technologies signed in October last year. The document was signed by the Communications and Information Technologies Ministers of Azerbaijan and Cuba, Ali Abbasov and Ramiro Valdes Menendez respectively. The document is of a generic character and is intended to be made fundamental in defining opportunities for further cooperation in specific projects. The agreement should also contribute to mutual assistance in terms of the positioning of Azerbaijani high-tech products in the Cuban market.

The Azerbaijani companies, AZEL, KUR and Ultra, handed over about 30 laptop and desktop computers to the Cuban government to be used in the lecture rooms of higher and secondary educational institutions. The main point was not immediately entering the Cuban market, but the possibility of the Azerbaijani companies' participation in the computerization of the education system of the country, if they implement any specific projects.

A similar agreement was also reached with Mexico under the Plenipotentiary Conference of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), held in Oct. 2010, with a memorandum on cooperation in ICT signed on the occasion.
