Azerbaijan launches GIS system in tourism sphere

Azerbaijan, Baku, April 20/Trend, H. Valiyev /

Azerbaijani IT-company SINAM has completed work on creating geographic information system (GIS) in tourism.

The system is based on the portal guide-map.az. The Azerbaijani IT-company SINAM has conducted relevant work. A geo-information project will provide users with a tool for searching and viewing the location of tourist sites, museums, hospitals and other facilities on an electronic map of the republic, as well as obtain information about the tourism facilities along the country's territory.

A virtual base unites operations to work with databases with the advantages of a full-fledged visualization. The main goal of the project is to ensure everyday use of all opportunities that will be provided by information system. The project customer is the Azerbaijani Culture and Tourism Ministry.

The tourism sphere is closely linked with space-oriented objects. The project will be launched in a Global Position System (GPS).

All tourist facilities will be equipped with GPS, which allows accurate determination of a specific location's coordinates.

At present, GIS systems are used in the spheres of ecology, military, agriculture, construction, development and mining, etc. Using GIS systems in the tourism sector will increase the country's tourist attractiveness and individual tourism and excursion routes.
