Biometric identification system software under development in Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan, Baku, April 23/Trend, H.Valiyev /
Software is being developed in Azerbaijan to get the system of issuing biometric passports launched, a source close to the project told Trend on Saturday.
The new software will substitute the existing one, which is used for reading information from ID cards and passports. The key function of the new software assumes passport information reading by systems of issuing biometric passports. Biometric passports will be supplied with the entire modern levels of protection to minimize fake documents. Biometric passports will be manufactured by the Swiss company Trub AG.
Trub AG technical proposals over production and personalization of biometric passports were complied with modern safety requirements to comply Azerbaijani passports with the image and other indicators of modern samples.
Works of preparation of the necessary legal documents regulating the launch of the system of biometric identification have already been completed. The State Program envisioning the establishment of the system of biometric identification population for 2007-2012 has already been adopted.
Under the project, centers will be established in Azerbaijan to be involved in personalization of new-generation passports. Database will be established in the country; biometric indicators will be added to the passports' chip, and these data will further be stored at a special biometric page of the passport.
The launch of such a system will bring to optimal introduction of the "common window" principle - the register of population - in Azerbaijan. This will help eliminate bureaucratic elements, and cut the number of the needed certificates and period of their confirmation, etc. A citizen with the biometric identity document will be able to pass through all databases with no written confirmation or certificate required.
