Azerbaijan, Baku, June 29 / Trend, H. Valiyev /
Cost of licensed versions of software products in Azerbaijani software market should be about 40 percent below market value in U.S., the Information Research Center head Yashar Hajiyev told Trend.
The problem of licensing and combating counterfeit products, according to Hajiyev, is quite a difficult subject, given Azerbaijan's economic growth, the country is gradually coming to the point when one can talk about any administrative measures to prevent the use of counterfeit products.
"I suppose that we have not yet reached to this point. At this stage there is a need for incentives for the use of licensed products. But at the same time, these measures should not be punitive in toward people using counterfeit products," Hajiyev said.
Citing the experience of neighboring countries (Russia and Georgia), Hajiyev said that the companies representing Microsoft's interests are often more severe to the rights of the software giant than in the U.S.
However Microsoft and other companies pursue more soft and delicate policy in the United States. They give opportunity to higher education institutions on a preferential basis and in a certain period to download defined number of distribution disk of licensed version of products.
"That is, in fact, they have the opportunity to purchase licensed versions of products at the lowest prices. Unfortunately, this kind of program is not implemented in our country. It would be nice if vendors presented some favorable conditions for the use of licensed version of software," Hajiyev said.
