Uzbekistan to analyze IT technology development

Uzbek President Islam Karimov has ordered a critical analysis of the development of information and communication technologies in Uzbekistan, a source in the government told Trend on Friday.

A working group headed by First Deputy Prime Minister Rustam Azimov was created by Presidential decree.

The group must develop proposals to improve the management and activity of the national communication and information system in accordance with modern requirements and international standards.

The group will pay special attention to the analysis of the ICT, including terrestrial, mobile, satellite and other electronic means of delivery and dissemination of information, the development of the Internet, the use of modern information and computer technology in economy, as well as the analysis of adopted program implementation for the development of information and communication technologies.

The group will assess the effectiveness of the current system of monitoring and analyzing streaming Internet, web sites and social networks, and the interconnection of Internet providers in data networks.

The group must develop proposals creating effective mechanisms to counter negative effects from the Internet, mobile and other data transfer systems on the population, especially young people.

Specific proposals must be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers by October 1, 2012.
