A board meeting on the results of the first half of 2013 was held at the Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry, the Ministry reported on Friday.

According to the report, while opening a meeting, Communications and IT Minister Ali Abbasov said that Azerbaijan's non-oil sector has achieved significant development and growth as a result of recent successful economic policy.

According to the minister, the ICT sector plays an important role in the development of non-oil sector.
Abbasov emphasized that Azerbaijan ranked eighth among 144 countries on the index of "Government's achievements in ICT", ninth on the index of "Importance of ICT in the government's view for the future", while 20th on the index of "Internet availability" in the report "Global Information Technology 2013" of the World Economic Forum.

According to the report, a report dedicated to the activity undertaken in the ICT sector for six months and success achieved in this area was heard at the board meeting. It was stressed that the growth of the ICT sector hit 10.5 percent compared to the same period of last year.

The information relating to the projects implemented for six months was delivered at the meeting in accordance with the "Action Plan of the Communications and IT Ministry related to the announcement of 2013 as "Year of information and communication technologies".

The reports of heads of several associations and enterprises of the Communication Ministry were heard during the meeting.

In conclusion, Azerbaijani Communication and IT Minister made recommendations regarding the continuation of the activities associated with the expansion of digital television broadcasting in the country, the expansion of financial services in the postal sector, information security, "e-government", electronic services.

Abbasov also stressed the importance of using the information and communication technologies together with the Central Election Commission (CEC) in the upcoming presidential elections in the country.
