By Huseyn Hasanov - Trend:

The cellular services of Turkmen mobile operator Altyn Asyr (TM Cell) are used by over 3.808 million subscribers.

The mobile operator said on April 23 that it launched roaming with 172 mobile operators from 99 countries.

Altyn Asyr (TM Cell) was registered by the World Association of GSM Standard Mobile Operators in 2004 under number 438 02.

Since that time the coverage area of its services has significantly expanded, and now it covers almost all Turkmen settlements, including remote and hard-to-reach areas, and the ones located along roads and railways.

Altyn Asyr's service package includes LTE services, designed for flexible service migration between 2G, 3G and 4G mobile networks.

Till recent days Turkmenistan's Communications Ministry was a local monopoly in the country in the sphere of telecommunications services.

The state-owned mobile communication enterprise Altyn Asyr (TM Cell) was reorganized in 2013 and was converted into a private enterprise becoming a closed joint stock company (CJSC).

Earlier it was reported that joint ventures can be created in Turkmen mobile communications market with the help of foreign investments.

Russian MTS is the only foreign company operating in Turkmenistan's mobile communications market.
