Report on phishing attacks announced in Azerbaijan as of January-May

The number of phishing incidents in AzNET's segment dropped by 27.68 percent in January-May 2014, according to Netcraft analytical company's report.

In early 2014 one phishing attack productive for scammers accounted for 896 sites in the .az domain in Azerbaijan, in early June this figure reduced to 648, according to the report.

The number of phishing attacks in AzNET's segment decreased by more than a half compared to the same period of 2013.

The analysis is based on the Netcraft Toolbar program, which is a plug-in for Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers. The program notifies users of a potentially dangerous Internet resources and prevention of a phishing attack.

Netcraft Toolbar is currently installed on 4,539 personal computers in Azerbaijan.

Phishing attacks are carried out through mass e-mails under the names of popular brands.

The letter often contains a direct link to the brand's false website, visually not different from the original one. Once on that site, a user can report valuable information to scammers creating access to a user's accounts and bank accounts.
