By Huseyn Valiyev -Trend:

Azerbaijani Azertelecom company will increase the capacity of international communication channels up to 200 gigabits in the near future, Trend was told by the company.

Negotiations on the issue are underway by Russian operator "MegaFon" and Turkish TurkTelecom.

Currently, the volume of consumption of Internet traffic over the network Azertelecom is 70 gigabits. The traffic is divided among 25 percent of large Internet service providers of the country which use the Azertelecom link as backup. The company's plans for 2016 include an increase up to 400 gigabits in the capacity of international channels, said the company.

Azertelecom Internet traffic flows through the lines, laid in the north and west, which are fully independent and interchangeable.

The communication channel to the north docked with the backbone network of the Russian "MegaFon", through which Azertelecom has access (via Moscow) to the main centers of Internet distribution, located in Stockholm and Frankfurt. West Channel routed through Georgia and has direct access (via Istanbul-Turkish channel) to Frankfurt.

The company uses DWDM transport technology in its backbone network, which allows for the long-distance traffic transfer at speeds up to 400 gigabits per second in all directions.

Currently, the greatest volume of Internet traffic consumed in the country accounted for primary provider net Delta Telecom - 190 gigabits. Delta Telecom traffic is divided among 27 telecommunications operators (public and private Internet service providers, mobile operators, and others).
