By Huseyn Hasanov – Trend:

Turkmenistan’s national telecommunications company Turkmentelecom will upgrade fiber-optic communication trunk line using the Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing technology, the Turkmen State News Agency reports.

The Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing, or DWDM, is an optical multiplexing technology used to increase bandwidth over existing fiber networks. DWDM works by combining and transmitting multiple signals simultaneously at different wavelengths on the same fiber.

Turkmenistan will upgrade the Turkmen-Kazakh and Turkmen-Uzbek sections of the trunk line, as well as the sections in regions bordering Iran and Afghanistan, according to the report.

Automatic phone stations, based on the Next Generation Network (NGN) technology that allows the simultaneous use of the internet and communication services, are being installed in the regions of Turkmenistan.

Work is underway to purchase the modern equipment, expand the external internet channel, and increase the number of the internet users, said the Turkmen State News Agency.
