The Republican Center of the Seismological Service (RTSS) has presented to the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (ANAS) a grant plan for the research of seismotectonic features of the Greater Caucasus region, the RCSS told Trend.

A similar plan was also prepared and presented to the Russian Academy of Sciences by the Physics of the Earth Institute.

"It is expected that the responses to the documents considered by the parties will be adopted in the fourth quarter of this year," the RCSS said.

Azerbaijan and Russia will conduct these studies jointly. Related works envisage conduction of the seismic tomography studies of great depths and studies of the seismotectonic features of the Southern Slope of the Greater Caucasus, including the identification of earthquakes’ epicenters.

The project will start after the financing issues are resolved and will be financed by both the Azerbaijani and Russian sides. In the future, the issue of other countries’ participation in the project may also be considered.
