Turkey to have its own payment system

A domestic payment system will be created in Turkey for international payments, the country’s Ministry of Transport, Maritime and Communications told Trend Nov. 22.

The ministry said the work to create the national payment system is being carried out by Turkey’s postal operator. Meanwhile, the ministry did not specify the timing of its creation.

The creation of a domestic payment system will contribute to the growth in electronic commerce in Turkey.

In the first half of 2017, online purchases in Turkey totaled 30.8 billion liras, some 17.5 billion liras of which accounted for retail trade, 10.1 billion liras – for tourism sector (hotel reservation), and the remaining 3.2 billion liras – for online gambling.
