Uzbekistan plans to increase the share of information and communication technologies in the GDP to 4 percent, podrobno.uz reported citing the director of Mirzo Ulugbek Innovation Center (MUIC), Farhad Ibrahimov.

"Our goal is to increase the share of the IT sector in GDP, which now stands at 2 percent, to 4 percent by 2020. For this we have certain tasks that need to be met," he said.

He stressed that for the development of the industry, at this stage first of all it is necessary to pay attention to education. "We need to invest all our resources in education, and only after that we will go through further steps to attract international companies and create local companies. Our center will soon become one of the most developing and progressive ones, and will also be the locomotive of the entire industry, " stressed Ibrahimov.

MUIC was created in accordance with the presidential decree of June 30, 2017 and operates on the principle of extraterritoriality throughout the entire country to create the most favorable conditions for the development of production of ICT products and services.

In mid-November, Uzbekistan was named the most dynamically developing country in the field of ICT according to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

Uzbekistan took the 95th place in IDI Index 2017. Last year, Uzbekistan was on the 110th place, following the revision the country was ranked the 103rd.
