By Huseyn Veliyev - Trend:

Institute of information technologies (IIT) and Institute of physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (NASA) have started implementation of the project of formation of segments of the GRID, IIT told Trend.

Within the framework of the project, the Institute of physics provides for creation of the Internet resource AZ-IFAN GRID, and the Institute of information technologies provides for creation of information and computing complex II GRID.

"Both infrastructures will be used for physical and mathematical modeling. Employees of the NASA structural units will be able to use its advantages to solve resource-intensive tasks. In the future, the scientific community of Azerbaijan will be able to use the resources of foreign GRID segments," the IIT said.

The local GRID segment will allow employees of the Institute of physics to conduct joint research with colleagues from the European center for nuclear research (CERN) and the Joint Institute for nuclear research of Russia.

Currently, work has started on adaptation of the GRID segment of the Institute of physics to international standards. The grid infrastructure of the Institute of physics of NASA is integrated to the European scientific network GEANT. The GRID segment is served by eight server platforms. A total of 160 computer cores, 640 gigabytes of RAM and 7.2 terabytes of data are used.
